What the hell stress-free publishing is, you probably ask yourself. Is she making it up to grab my attention???

Well, this is a valid question, but NO, I don’t make it up, this is what I do TO HELP PEOPLE WRITE A BOOK AND BECOME AUTHORS.

The difference between a writer and an author is that the author got their work published—this is it. It might sound simplistic, but this is the bare true – if you want to be an author, you have to get your work published in a book form. Cover, spine blurb and all that…

This whole process of deciding to become an author, to write your book and get it published, can be pretty stressful — I tell you that because I was there. I had my doubts about being the right person to write a book and the fear of being ridiculed for even trying. I didn’t know where to start, where to find editors and graphic designers, and I had no idea how to get it published. I bumped into so many roadblocks that it was as if the universe is trying to tell me something—trying to tell me to give up on my dream.

Luckily, I was prepared to bump into walls – this is what happens when you try something new. When you grow. When you step out of your comfort zone. Even though it happens to everyone, it doesn’t make it easier FOR YOU to deal with.

The 5 “IFs” That are Keeping You From Getting Your Book Published


It’s not about lack of talent or being lazy, and it’s not about bad ideas or lack of time.


Actually, it’s always about FEAR!

“What if people wouldn’t like what I have to say?”

“What if they think I’m stupid?”

“What if they laugh at me?”

And the BIG one is always “what if I’m just a big fraud? Who am I to write a book?”

So many “What ifs….”

Do you know what I think about that? All those *Ifs* are just excuses why not to commit to write and publish your book. They feed your fears, and they’re holding you back!

When I published my first book “Sparkly Me,” I had excellent why-not excuses: I’m an immigrant, so I suck at English, I have three young children to take care of, so I have no time, and I have no idea where to start. Great excuses, right?

So, what I did was to take one step at a time and figure out where to get the help I needed, because HELP IS THE #! KEY TO SUCCESS.

If I would have listened to the little voices who told me I couldn’t do it, I would never sell tens of thousands of copies and become a #1 best-selling author.

There are only two questions you need to answer before you contact me:

1. On a scale from 1-10, how committed you are to write and publish your book (1 is not committed at all and ten is fully committed and ready to go).

2. Are you prepared to deal with the fears that hold you back?

What’s Better: Paid Advertising or Free Book Promos?

Opinions on how to market your book, free or paid, differ so widely it can be pretty confusing, especially if you’re just starting out.

There are so many people out there that will tell you, “Just sign up on a free website – it works.”

Unfortunately, free promotion doesn’t work the same way it used to work, but still, there are free websites out there which can help you get your book off the ground.

One great website that you can use is Author Marketing Club.

I don’t have any affiliates with them, but I do recommend going to that website. There are loads of other free sites where you can sign up for a promotion. It might take you a few hours, but it’s definitely better than doing nothing.


When you start marketing your book, you’re bound to do a little research. You’ll discover there are plenty of ways to market, but some of them are locked behind a paywall. However, those who are the reputable sites are well worth the money.

BookBub, for example, is well known. I was lucky enough to be featured on their website once, and I got 13,000 downloads in six hours.

Since those were free downloads, I’m not even counting that as part of the 40,000 e-book-sales I generated during the 16 weeks I topped my category on Amazon.

13,000 downloads, wow -people downloaded my book, read it, and some of them contacted me. I had a phone call once from a 9-year-old girl. She said, “I love your books. How do you come up with the ideas?”

I’ll tell you, it’s a great feeling to communicate with your readers.

But, it’s also tough to get your book promoted on BookBub these days, costs aside. Saying that I’d urge that you keep trying, because sometimes they have an available spot, and you reached out to them on the same day it opens up.

Marketing is all about trying.

What I want to say to authors is this: “Keep trying.”

Send emails, even if it seems like there’s no hope there, or that, “It’s never going to happen for me.” Do it. Don’t give up. Submit your book to competitions and to promotional websites. You never know what’s going to happen.

You have to figure out what works best for you. If the only resource you have is time, submit everywhere. Sit next to your computer eight hours a day and do that.

Keep trying, and you will make it happen.

How to Use Your Book to Attract People to Your Mailing List

E-Book, unlike print copy, provides a unique opportunity – The e-book is both your product and marketing tool.


It’s an e-Book which means you can include loads of information which you can’t in a paperback, such as links.

So, here’s what I do:

I create a landing page on my website, where the reader subsequently is given another free e-book, or a free chapter from my next book, or whatever it is that you do.

They click the link, go to the website, and to get that freebie they have to fill in their name and email address.

Bam! You’ve just gotten their email address for your list.

Those are your readers. You can communicate with them directly after that.

In truth, you’re not going to get the emails of people who purchased your book from Amazon, so you have to figure out how to capture that information. To do that, just add a link to your e-book, offer something for free, and for them to get that freebie ask for their email address and name.

What to do with that information?

Think about it this way; these are people who purchase your book, so they’re already interested in what you have to say. This is why you need to communicate with them on a regular basis.

Make sure to use that list to send content, and to communicate valuable information to the people who already like you. At some point, you can offer something – your next book for a discounted price, a 1:1 meeting with you for $100, or whatever makes sense to you. Collecting email addresses is the best way to make sure you can stay in touch with your fans, and potentially generate income form that list.

Think about the mailing list as people who love you and want to hear more from you. Give them what they want.

Why You SHOULD Give Your Book Away For Free

‘For Free’ in this instance, means you’ll have to enroll your book in Amazon’s KDP Select Program.

This ‘free’ concept might be a little confusing for you, so please allow me to explain more about the program and why giving away your book for no-cost, is a good idea.

KDP Select is Amazon’s way of telling authors, usually Indie authors, “We want you to succeed. We want to give you marketing options.”

When you sign up for KDP Select, you enter into a 90-day program. During that time you may not publish your book on any other platform, and by *other platforms* I mean no Smashwords, no Barnes & Noble, no Kobo, none of that.

You have to be exclusive to Amazon for that 90 day period. In return, you get the option to give away your book for free.

Okay, so, let’s say your book is priced at $4.99 and you want to promote it. You choose the dates, and you get five days every 90 days to give it away for free. You can decide when and for how long you want to give your e-book for free.

You might want to promote the e-book for one day or five days in one go.

Every book is different, and I can’t say I have the best formula for each book, it’s all about experimentation.

Sometimes, it’s great to have it free for one day. Sometimes, it’s great to have a launch week and then use the whole five days at once. But keep in mind that you can have one or two days every month if you space it out over the entire 90 days.

Here’s a simple truth: people like to get quality products for free.

If your book is an excellent book (and I’m sure it is), you can tell them: “My book will be free on this day.” If you remind them more than one on that day, they will most likely pick it up.

Keep in mind that there’s a good chance that if they enjoy the book, they’ll leave a review or even subscribe to your newsletter or email list, just don’t forget to ask them to write a review or subscribe to your list.  This tactic will help you get access to a new subscriber base and pick up fan along the way, as well as boost your book after the free period is over. Reviews are an author’s bread and butter, after all.
